Interview with designer Wendy Butcher

Wendy Butcher

Tell us about your background.

I started sketching as a young kid and immediately took an interest. I would sketch models from magazines and album covers. I continued by taking all the art classes that were offered through high school.

I received an Associates Degree in Commercial Art and have taken numerous other classes. In 2009, I completed a certificate program in Advanced Business Marketing Design with a concentration in Visual Identity through Sessions Online School of Design. Most recently, I completed an online Internet Marketing certificate from De Paul University. I'm always trying to keep up with current technologies.

Tell us about your work experience.

I have an extensive background in commercial printing. In retrospect, I feel that learning from that end of the process, makes me smarter in knowing how to design especially for print.

I wanted to further my career in design along with freelancing. I worked at two advertising agencies as a full time art director and web designer. I am currently employed as a graphic designer for a company that works in Advanced Sciences and Engineering with a concentration on Cyber Security. It's interesting work designing technology visuals.

These work experiences have made me grow as an artist along with my education in marketing and design which has taught me to stay focused on the brand when designing for a company.

What inspires you as an artist?

I have always had an appreciation of nature. I think that the natural world around us is an art form of all sorts and should be appreciated.
